Shillong, Nov 16: The 9th Inter-Collegiate Youth Festival-cum-Games and Sports Meet 2025 of the Central Agricultural University (CAU) of Imphal started yesterday with great enthusiasm at the College of Post-Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGS-AS), Umiam.
This three-day event will conclude on Monday at the CPGS-AS, one of the CAU Imphal’s affiliated colleges.
The inaugural session of the event witnessed the participation of students, faculty and officials from across all the 13 constituent CAU campuses, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of youth talent, sportsmanship and cultural unity.
Chief guest of the event, Arun Kumar Sarma, the Director General of NECTAR, highlighted the importance of extra-curricular platforms in shaping agricultural professionals.
During the inaugural, presidential address was given by Anupam Mishra, CAU Imphal Vice-Chancellor. He emphasised that youth festivals play a vital role in fostering confidence, teamwork, leadership and cultural appreciation among students. He encouraged the participants to compete with sincerity and to build bonds that transcend institutional boundaries.
Further, Indira Sarangthem, CAU Imphal Director of Instruction, Padmashree Trinity Saioo and others also attended the programme as guests of honour.
This year’s meet will feature a wide range of events, including athletics, indoor and outdoor sports, literary competitions, fine arts, performing arts and cultural competitions. In addition to this, this youth fest will also witness motivational speech, lecture on mental well being, ‘Thinkathon’, business meet, ‘happiness fair’ and talk on integrating AI and LLMs in education and research. The platform aims to encourage healthy rivalry while promoting unity among the constituent colleges of CAU.
Meanwhile, the college also marked Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on the same day.
As part of the day’s celebration, CPGSAS felicitated two distinguished tribal personalities from Meghalaya whose achievements serve as an inspiration, Saioo, recognised for her exceptional work in promoting Lakadong turmeric, and Margaret Pathaw, a renowned arm wrestler.
The observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas saw participation from students, faculty members and staff, featuring insightful discussions on tribal heritage, cultural reflections, and interactive sessions.
