A day after meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on the progress of the four-lane road from Shillong to Dawki, the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Upper Shillong (SNSUS) today inspected the construction of the project starting from the Umshyrpi Bridge.
During the inspection, the officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corp Ltd (NHIDCL), officers from various departments, Mylliem Block, the police and members of the Synjuk were present.
Speaking to reporters, the advisor of the SNSUS, Daniel Thangkhiew, said that during the inspection, they have informed the NHIDCL officials about the slow pace of work and also many issues which have affected the movement of the people.
He said that the Synjuk is ready to render help to the NHIDCL during the course of the construction of the road along the stretch in Upper Shillong.
Thangkhiew said that during the inspection they asked the NHIDCL to complete the stretch from Umshyrpi Bridge to 3rd Mile so that traffic can flow. The BDO of Mylliem, Toshanbha Marwein, said that the officials of the NHIDCL assured that it will resolve the issues faced by the public.
Marwein admitted that the current construction of the four-lane has affected commuters. The BDO said that they have requested the company to speed up the construction of the road to ease the people.
He said that the NHIDCL officials said that they are facing various problems and issues and the public is ready to cooperate so that the work can be completed on time.
On the other hand, the Synjuk said that they are ready to cooperate with the contractor for the smooth running of the work so that the people will not face any more interminable traffic jams.
