The Shillong regional centre of IGNOU held its convocation along with other centres across the country.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma was present on the occasion.
According to a press release, 963 students were eligible to get the certificates, of which 109 were from bachelor’s degrees, 506 were from master’s degrees, 94 were from postgraduate degrees and the remainder from certificate programmes. A total of 128 students received degrees at the convocation.
Sangma congratulated the awardees and stressed the significance of implementing a consistent curriculum throughout the educational journey, from school to college and university. He pointed out that Meghalaya boasts numerous educational institutions compared to other states in India. By enhancing the quality of these institutions, the state has the potential to become a leading education destination in the country. This could lead to an increase in the production of skilled human resources in the service sectors.
