Shillong, Sep 1: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has flagged illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals through vulnerable border stretches and sought stronger surveillance.
In a memorandum to BSF Meghalaya Frontier IG O.P. Upadhyay on Tuesday, HITO President Donbok Dkhar said unauthorised cross-border movement has implications for national security and the interests of border residents.
He said the organisation had handed over suspected Bangladeshi nationals to police on two occasions — four to Sadar PS, Shillong, on April 3, 2025, and three to Mawryngkneng PS, East Khasi Hills, on August 27, 2026.
The organisation urged the BSF to intensify anti-infiltration efforts, act on intelligence and local inputs, and involve communities in lawful awareness and information-sharing.
HITO also sought more employment for Meghalaya youth in the BSF. Appreciating recruitment in 2025, it urged the IG to take up with MHA the need for additional vacancies and special drives, especially for border-area youth, saying it would address unemployment and strengthen national security.
