The ICAR Research Complex, Umiam in collaboration with Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat recently convened a two-day deliberation on rainfed agriculture on May 16-17, a delayed press release informed today.
This event brought together leading agricultural research institutions under the aegis of the ICAR – Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), involving researchers working in its two All India Coordinated Research Projects on Dryland Agriculture and Agrometeorology network.
The meeting focused on rainfed agriculture and climate resilience in the North East, with prominent figures like Prof Panjab Singh, former Secretary of DARE and DG ICAR, and Vinod Kumar Singh, Director of CRIDA.
The discussions aimed to address the challenges and opportunities faced by farmers in this unique climate zone. Experts from different parts of the country discussed practical solutions for improving crop yields and sustainability in rain-dependent farming systems.
The programme also included the release of a bulletin and folder containing valuable information for farmers and agricultural stakeholders. The event is expected to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers and extension workers, ultimately empowering farmers in the North East to navigate the complexities of rainfed agriculture.
