The Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union (SMSU) has written to the National Testing Agency to exempt Meghalaya for a further year from the Central University Entrance Test (CUET).
In a letter dated yesterday, the SMSU said that parents and students had come to Shillong seeking admission to local colleges only to find that CUET had been made mandatory.
The SMSU “is deeply concerned” that such a move will hurt the careers of students, from various parts of the North East not just Manipur, who are now unable to enroll in institutions in Shillong.
The “sudden implementation” and mandatoriness of CUET in the admission process has affected many students’ careers as they were not aware of the necessity of CUET, SMSU general secretary Yambem Suchitra Devi said in the letter while calling for the exemption.
