The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Meghalaya today celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity 2023 with focus on building back biodiversity with special emphasis on conservation and raising of traditionally important medicinal plants in the State.
IBSD and its staff is associated with the medicinal plants plantation as per the mandate of the institute through its various programs. Plant saplings were also distributed to the people on the occasion with the initiative of raising them under institutional supervision.
The activities of sensitizing the people towards importance of locally available bioresources and their sustainable utilization is supported under the guidance of IBSD Director, Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee to promote awareness of biodiversity and their conservation.
During the program Dr.Sushil Chaudhary, Dr.Bhaskar Das, and Dr. JK Shukla expressed their views emphasising need and relevance of celebrating the day.
IBSD head office at Imphal, regional centre at Gangtok and the two nodes, each at Shillong and Aizawl are organising such activities to inculcate scientific approach among masses towards sustainable utilization and conservation of local bioresources.
