Shillong, Feb 16: The Hynñiewtrep Youth’ Council (HYC) has criticised Congress President Vincent H. Pala over his recent statement that the international border is “fully secured”.
According to Pala, concerns about an influx of migrants are merely “perceptual”.
HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem termed Pala’s comments “irresponsible” and “detached from reality”, saying they insult the lived experiences of indigenous communities.
He cited illegal crossings, fake identity documents, encroachments, and demographic pressure along the Indo-Bangladesh border, questioning Pala’s claim.
The HYC accused Pala of emboldening infiltration networks and trivialising genuine fears of the indigenous people.
“To claim that the international border is fully secured is an insult to the lived experiences of the indigenous people of Meghalaya,” Synrem said.
