The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Friday forced closure of the office of Dr. Nalin Mehta the Director of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in protest against job recruitment process.
According to the HYC, the institute failed to respond to concerns over the recent advertisement for recruitment of 107 nursing officer posts.
The HYC had given NEIGRIHMS seven-day time to respond to their concerns.
“The authorities did not pay heed to our demands therefore we had no option but to ask the Director to leave his office,” HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem told reporters.
He also said that the Director told the pressure group that NEIGRIHMS had prepared a letter and were supposed to send it today.
According to him the pressure group has received a copy of the letter and it states that on the issue of conducting the recruitment test the HLL will be one of the agencies to conduct the recruitment test.
He said that the HYC is opposed to the NORCET conducting the recruitment test for its nursing staff.
On the HYC’s demand to keep the gender ratio at 80:20 (female to male nurses) in the recruitment advertisement, NEIGRIHMS told the pressure group that the institute will write to the concerned ministry to remind the centre of their demands.
Synrem said that if NEIGRIHMS cannot implement the 80:20 gender ratio the HYC will not allow the institute to go ahead with the recruitment of nurses.
He said that the institutions such as AIIMS, ESIC, and RIMS keep the gender ratio at 80:20 in their recruitment advertisements.
The HYC president said that in recruitment rules of the NEIGRIHMS there is no provision to allow the 80:20 gender ratio even as he stated that the Ministry of Health has not clearly indicated if the institute on its own can change it.
