The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has demanded all the 36 MLAs of Khasi-Jaintia hills to extend support to review the State reservation policy.
“In view of the all party meeting to be convened by the state government on the reservation policy, we are hopeful that our 36 MLAs speak on the issue because our youth are suffering,” HNYM President Louis Dohtdong said at a press conference here today.
He the organisation agrees with the views made by Congress MLA, Saleng Sangma that 80 per cent of job reservation should be made to all Meghalayans, irrespective of communities.
Stating that the organization is also opposed to the roster system he said it is unfair. He stated that the MDA-2 government failed to take any initiative to discuss on the reservation policy but instead formulated the office memorandum for the roster system in 2022.
He said while the population of the Khasi people has crossed more than 16.42 lakh and the Garo population with over 13.13 lakh as per the 2011 census, he added, that the reservation of 40:40 remains the same till date.
