The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills against the recent visit of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) delegation to Shillong.
The DSGMC visited the city following the government recommendation that the residents of Sweepers Lane, who are mostly of Punjabi origin, be relocated to another part of Shillong.
HITO questioned if the DSGMC had acquired prior permission from the DC’s office to hold a public meeting on October 13.
In the complaint, HITO said that, from photographs taken of the event, it appeared as though there were more than the permissible number of people at the meeting and that Covid-19 protocols were not followed.
“HITO wishes to know whether your office was aware of the sudden and unannounced visit of such a high-profile delegation and its purpose and whether permission for this meeting was granted,” the pressure group said.
