Shillong, Jun 15: the Meghalaya High Court heard a clutch of PILs today concerning street hawkers and their relocation, urban congestion, traffic and pedestrian safety in Shillong.
During the hearing, the division bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, granted time after T Yangi B, Additional Advocate General, sought two days to file an affidavit-in-reply.
The court was told that a place allocated to hawkers was insufficient to accommodate all the shopkeepers.
S Dey, counsel for the state government, also sought time to file an affidavit regarding how much time the construction of vending stalls will take and how many stalls can be accommodated in the said area.
The court also directed that an officer from the Shillong Municipal Board be present on the date of next hearing, which was set for July 6.
