The Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday disposed off a public interest litigation (PIL), filed by Romilton Pahsyntiew.
The PIL was disposed of with the directions that the government will suitably mark the speed breakers so that they are discernable from a reasonable distance.
“It would be desirable if the speed breakers are preceded by a signage, wherever possible so that the motorists can be made aware of the need to reduce speed. The State is to ensure that speed detection devices, wherever required are suitably installed and maintained,” a division bench of the Meghalaya High Court consisting of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh stated.
The court stated that the PIL was disposed of after hearing the counsel for the parties, and they are satisfied that their order dated December 16, 2024 has been complied with to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
