The Meghalaya High Court has rejected the bail plea of M Tuanbiaklian, an accused in drug smuggling, who was arrested in 2023 by police in East Jaintia Hills and is currently in jail after being booked under the NDPS Act.
Tuanbiaklian, in his bail application, said that he had no connection to the 2.738 kilos of heroin found from a Tata Winger (NL-07-T-0815) by police during checking at Nongsning.
However, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh rejected the contentions made by the accused that he is innocent and was not aware of the concealment of the drugs in the vehicle he was traveling in.
“At this stage it is too premature to convince this court that the accused person is not aware of the concealment of such contraband in the vehicle he was traveling in,” Justice Diengdoh said in his order passed yesterday.
On June 19, 2023, East Jaiñtia Hills Police seized 2.738 kilograms of the drug in 200 soap cases hidden inside a vehicle bearing registration number NL 07T 0815 and arrested Tuanbiaklian and one Imliakum Longkumer of Nagaland near a fuel station at Nongsning.
Following an investigation, a charge sheet was filed on September 6, 2023 with a finding that a prima facie case under Section 21(c)/29 NDPS is found well established against the accused persons and also against another co-accused, Jahangir Alom.
