Shillong, Sep 9: Amid the ongoing political machinations in the state, particularly following reports about several MLAs intending to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the president of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, said that the BJP and its parent organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), intend on eliminating regional political parties.
Speaking to reporters about this today, Basaiawmoit said that the BJP is the political face of the RSS and that it is clear that its objective is to eliminate the other indigenous political parties.
“The BJP is the political front of the RSS and we clearly know what their agenda is,” he added.
The VPP chief said that the BJP has made it clear that it wants to wipe out the Congress Party and also regional parties like it has done in West Bengal and other states.
By contrast, he asserted that the agenda of the VPP is to have clean governance for true development and to protect the uniqueness of the indigenous people.
“It depends on the people to empower us. If they do, we will fulfill their wishes,” Basaiawmoit said.
He added that it is clear that the BJP wants to be in power in all states but is facing difficulty in being accepted by the public in Meghalaya. As such, it has to find ways to increase its strength by poaching members from other parties.
Basaiawmoit cautioned that the BJP, if it were to come to power in Meghalaya, may be less tolerant of dissent. Therefore, if the people accept the party, it would mean that they are also accepting its ideology and principles, he added.
