Shillong, Sep 9: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has urged Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to reconsider the recent appointment order issued by the Urban Affairs Department for the post of District Urban Planner and Town Planning Officer in Tura.
In a letter submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills today, the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone referred to office memo No. UAU.63/2010/220 giving Elangki Shullai dual charge of Shillong and Tura.
It said entrusting one officer with charge of offices hundreds of kilometres apart would be impractical, lead to work stress, frequent travel and delays.
FKJGP said the prolonged absence of a full-time officer in Tura has already affected functioning, with pending applications for water and electricity connections and clearance for residential and commercial buildings not processed in time, causing hardship.
It urged the government to appoint a full-time dedicated officer for Tura to clear the backlog and address grievances.
