Shillong, Sep 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today reviewed health infrastructure projects across the state.
Over 110 sub-centres have been completed in the last two years, with another 200 scheduled for completion by March 2027, taking the total to 700, an official release said.
Upgradation and new construction at Bajengdoba, Byrnihat, Mahendraganj, Raksamgre and Mylliem Umthlong are nearing completion. The government aims to activate all these facilities, including the 100-bedded hospital at Resubelpara, by January 2027.Together, the works will add over 600 beds to the existing 7,000 beds in government facilities. The state has invested about Rs 750 crore in health infrastructure over the last five years.
The investments are reflected in outcomes, the release said. Infant deaths have declined by about 40 percent in five years — from 3,064 in 2020-21 to 1,833 in 2025-26 — while maternal deaths declined by 57 per cent during the same period.
As per NFHS-6 (2023-24), institutional deliveries rose from 51.4 per cent in NFHS-4 to 65.6 per cent and further to 79 per cent in 2025-26, full immunisation from 63.8 per cent to 75.3 per cent, and household health insurance coverage from 34.6 per cent to 74.9per cent, above the national average.
