Members of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Western Zone – North during a surprise visit to the office of Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) in Dadenggre said they caught officials of the office not attending office at specified timings.
The visit came after several complaints were made to the GSU from teachers as well as residents that officers including the SDSEO are not coming to office on time.
“We wanted to verify the complaints and as such paid a surprise visit yesterday to the office of the SDSEO and were not surprised that no one was present even at 12 noon. We have been told that officials come after 12:30 pm and leave by 3:30 – 4 pm,” said GSU Western Zone – North president Tengsan Marak.
He added that this was not the first time these complaints have come through from residents and teachers.
“This has caused lots of inconvenience to the teachers and general public as well. Teachers coming from remote places in this rainy season face many difficulties coming to the office every day and it’s even more frustrating when they can’t find the department officials,” added Marak.
Further he said that there were also complaints of misbehaviour of the staff of the office to people visiting the office.
Though the GSU leader did not name such officers, he said that the officers in question should behave properly with people coming to them for help.
“We expect them not to misbehave, be punctual and to attend office regularly. They may be coming from far places but keeping in mind the office timing is also very important for the smooth functioning of the office,” Marak said.
