The Green-Tech Foundation has initiated a protest within the Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary, marking the first day of its campaign to protect this vital ecosystem from the proposed Rs 23.60 crore ecotourism infrastructure project.
Yesterday, the foundation paid a visit to the sanctuary to raise awareness against the project, which it says threatens the sanctuary’s eco-balance and biodiversity, and received support from the local communities there.
The Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 50 species of mammals and 25 species of reptiles, including 30 species listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.
The foundation’s protest and awareness campaign aim to sensitise the public and the government about the importance of preserving the sanctuary. Green-Tech is determined to change the fate of this irreplaceable treasure and ensure its protection for future generations.
