To pave way for its 10 billion dollar economy road map, the Meghalaya government will convert 134 acres of land in Byrnihat for creation of a new industrial estate.
Sources said that the lands will include that of the Soil & Water Conservation Department at 107 acres, which currently houses the Conservation Training Institute, and 27 acres of the Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Department.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma last month.
The Investment Meghalaya Authority (IMA) will acquire these lands for setting up of the industrial estate.
The two departments have also been asked to submit the land mapping details and facilitate the transfer of the two lands to the IMA.
It may be mentioned that IMA had replaced the Single Window Agency which was set up in 1995 to promote investments in Meghalaya as well as to enhance the ease of doing business in the State by introducing a streamlined, unified system for handling investment applications.
Headed by the Chief Minister, investments exceeding Rs 10 crore will be directly overseen by the authority.
