The State government has decided to buy land in and around Tynring, Mawkasiang, Mawdiangdiang, Umsawli, Saisiej, Mawlong and Mawkhanu to bridge the gap between the proposed Administrative City and the proposed Knowledge City.
It may be mentioned that the New Shillong Township Development Agency (NSTDA) has already acquired land at Mawdiangdiang, Mawkasiang, Umsawli for the proposed Administrative City and at Mawkhanu, Mawpdang for the proposed Knowledge City.
In view of the distance, and to bridge a gap between the two locations, the NSTDA proposed to purchase additional land to serve as a corridor between the two proposed cities.
According to the NSTDA, the land plot should be in and around Tynring, Mawkasiang, Mawdiangdiang, Umsawli, Saisiej, Mawlong, Mawkhanu etc.
It also said that the plot should be easily approachable from the Main Road/By pass etc. It also said that the plot should be 10 acres and above.
The NSTDA said that land owners interested offer or sell their land in these areas can submit the proposal on or before April 15 along with photo-copies of land documents, survey map of the plot as well as offered rates in a sealed envelope and the rate should be quoted per square feet/square meter/acre basis.
The State government has proposed to spend more than Rs 2,500 crore for the construction of the much-awaited administrative city at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township. Land measuring 232 acres has been allocated for building of the Administrative City, which will have a large administrative complex to house a Secretariat building and all the directorates.
This integrated administrative complex is expected to cost Rs 550 crore. The detailed project reports (DPRs) will be prepared by the end of the second quarter of 2024-25 following which the tender for construction work will be floated.
Moreover, the Knowledge City will be built at Mawkhanu-Mawpdang in the 808 acres of land procured by the government. The Knowledge City will focus on sports, IT, tourism and agro-logistics. The DPR for this city at a cost of Rs 5400 crore has already been submitted to the Government of India.
