Umkynsier village in Ri-Bhoi hosted the Deputy Secretary of the Union Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER), Nehjamang Simte, yesterday.
He and other officials visited the village to conduct an interactive programme with locals, including headmen, Village Employment Councils, self-help group members, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and representatives from various government line departments.
During his speech, Simte emphasized the purpose of their visit, which was to launch a pilot programme aimed at saturating identified 15 basic services in 75 villages spread across 40 districts in the North East.
The programme aims to provide basic services such as healthcare, proper drinking water supply, education, nutrition, employment, PDS and other working activities to isolated and backward communities.
Umkynsier is one of two villages, the other being Pamlatar, that have been identified for this project in Ri-Bhoi.
