Representatives of the state government have met the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to start the process of recognition and affiliation of the new Capt Williamson Sangma State University.
“In order to start (the university) at the earliest we met the Chairman of the UGC for recognition, so that the affiliation process can be started,” Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said today. “We have requested the Chairman to speed up the process and he assured us of all assistance.”
The state government kicked off some amount of controversy recently by announcing that all government and government-aided colleges in the state will have to switch their affiliation from the central North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to the state university whether they want to or not.
Meanwhile, the minister was also asked about the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) goof-up where medical students faced certain irregular practices (two different exam papers, confusing instructions, etc). In response, Sangma said, “We have also discussed NEET and communicated with the NTA (National Testing Agency). I don’t know what they will decide. Let’s see.”
The NEET 2024 results were declared on Tuesday. Meghalaya had the fifth-lowest pass percentage in the country at 48.15 percent, down from last year’s 49.01 percent.
