Shillong MP Vincent Pala has urged the citizens of Meghalaya to get their dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in order to help the state exit the current lockdown.
“We cannot go on with the lockdown. Our citizens should get themselves vaccinated,” Pala said today. “People should not be scared of the vaccine. It is better to get vaccinated than to be admitted to hospital.”
Life is getting back to normal in other countries, such as the USA and Europe, because close to half the population there has been vaccinated, he opined. To keep Meghalaya from having to extend its current lockdown or re-enter one in future, at least 60 percent of the population will have to get the jab.
According to the MP, one reason for vaccine hesitancy is because the public has lost faith in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government. Another is because “there is no cooperation between the government and traditional heads and other stakeholders.”
