With no traces of the missing tourist couple, who have been missing for over a week now, the Meghalaya BJP has suggested the state government to get help from the centre.
State BJP general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna said the state should seek additional manpower and technological support from the Centre to locate the missing tourist couple from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.
Pohshna said there is a need to upgrade the state’s facilities to keep pace with national advancements in the digital domain, courtesy of the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also said that the party has suggested mandatory registration of all tourism-related businesses with a government agency, enabling tourists to register digitally. This would facilitate government monitoring of visitors, crucial for both tourism and security purposes, Pohshna added.
The other suggestions include mandatory CCTV installation at hotels and guesthouses to capture guest entry and exit in real-time, Wi-Fi or satellite-linked communication services at police outposts and tourist information centres in remote areas, especially near popular destinations to ensure constant assistance.
Amid heavy rains and difficult terrain, the Meghalaya police, State Disaster Response Force along with villagers in and around Sohra are making all efforts to find the tourist couple, who went missing since May 23.
The Meghalaya police have deployed its Special Operations Team (SOT) and K9 unit and used high powered drones, including thermal drones with the assistance of NESAC (North Eastern Space Applications Centre) in its search and rescue operations.
The couple Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi were last seen on May 22.
The search operation today was conducted at Wei Sawdong area of Sohra, after all efforts were put in to locate them at Dewlieh, Sohrarim, Nongriat, Mawsahew, and Mawlakhiat.
