The Aadya Hope Foundation has won second place in a youth competition for work on the importance of nutrition in patients with Down syndrome.
Dohaapia D Momin co-founded the Aadya Hope Foundation with Silchina Momin. The organisation has become a “beacon of hope for individuals with Down syndrome,” a press release said today.
Dohaapia is in her second year of her BSc undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the College of Community Science in Tura. Aadya won the runner-up prize in the category of ‘Assistive Technology and Solutions’ at the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) 6th Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Dialogue.
“Her work emphasises the crucial role of nutrition and diet in the health, development and quality of life for children with Down syndrome,” the press release from her college stated. “As a co-founder (of Aadya), Dohaapia is developing a nutrition programme specifically designed to optimise the health and development of these children.”
Youth Co:Lab was co-created in 2017 by the UNDP and the Citi Foundation with the aim to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth. This initiative focuses on accelerating the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
From 209 applications received from across India, 36 startups qualified for a two-month ‘National Springboard Programme’. Out of these, six startups were chosen as winners, Aadya Hope Foundation being one of them. The programme provides support to startups to help them achieve their goals and scale their impact.
