Four persons suspected to be involved in several theft cases in South West Khasi Hills district have been arrested, an official said on Thursday.
The individuals were held by Sordars and villagers of Awro, Demnar and Mariem on May 13 at around 8:30 pm, who were handed over to the police in Mawkyrwat.
The accused are identified as Denling Wanniang (40) of Sohpian, West Khasi Hills, Bankitskhem Paliar (24) of Demnar, Julian Thongnibah (30) and Jonas Thongnibah (29), both of Mariem village.
As per the FIR lodged by the Sordars, the individuals were involved in stealing livestock, such as cows, goats, chickens and construction materials and in threatening the Acting Syiem of Nobosohphoh Syiemship.
The Sordars said three more accused persons are at large.
Police said a case has been registered and investigation is on.
