The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Garo Hills zone has demanded the removal of the district project officer of the Meghalaya Non-Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) stating she was appointed without following procedures and conduct under rules set by the State government.
According to the FKJGP, Jawiriya Islam is also the Assistant Director in the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Office.
The organisation has written to the Director of MNREDA and said that the appointment was made without any advertisement issued from the office and she does not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the post.
The post requires a person who has a sound technical knowledge in the field of electrical, that is, Bachelor in Engineering. “As per our information received from different sources she had just recently completed her B.A in Sociology from Guwahati University and hence is not eligible to be appointed to the post,” FKJGP additional general secretary Matsrang A Sangma said.
He said since the post of the project officer should be a person who is fluent with the local language as it requires travel to different parts of West Garo Hills for project inspection and data collection the appointment of Islam was inappropriate and illegitimate.
Demanding fresh advertisement for the post the FKJGP said this should be in the interest of justice, transparency and unbiased conduct on the part of MNREDA.
