The Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), Central Potato Research Institute (CRPI), Research Station, Upper Shillong on December 6, organised a one-day training on “Organic Potato Production Technology” under NEH programme in collaboration with Krishi Vikas Kendra, Ri-Bhoi ICAR Umiam and ATMA, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi.
Altogether 56 farmers participated from five villages of Ri-Bhoi district.
The farmers were given training on different aspects of organic potato crop cultivation right from variety selection, diversification, integrated disease management, intensification, especially table and processing varieties which are helpful for employment generation and doubling farmers income.
An interaction was held among the scientists and farmers in order to clarify the doubts of the farmers.
The programme concluded with quality seed distribution of three tons of potato varieties, Kufri Chipsona, Sinduri and Chandramukhi, vemicompost, 500 kg and 25 litres of biofertilisers.
