Around 16 farmers participated in a day-long training programme on integrated fish farming system at the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Umiam, Ri Bhoi district today.
Principal Scientist & Head KVK, Ri Bhoi, Dr M Mokidul Islam highlighted the initiatives of the KVK in implementing the new farmer policies of the government.
He also gave a brief description of the poultry breed ‘Vanaraja’, which is a dual purpose poultry birds which perform better than local poultry in term of egg production and also in term of weight gain of the birds. He informed farmers that this breed can be reared like the local poultry.
Bankitkupar Mukhim, SMS Fishery Science spoke on how to gain maximum benefits through integrated fish farming by incorporating different kinds of livestock and crop with fisheries which will minimise the cost of production and maximise profit.
He explained on how farmers can manage their ponds especially during the time when fish diseases occur.
During the programme, 300 improved Vanaraja were distributed to the farmers along with 16kg of mineral mixture for the benefit of the farmers.
