The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Ri Bhoi district today conducted another field day to popularise HYV of Paddy var TRC 2014-8 at Umeit village.
According to the KVK, the paddy variety has non-lodging and non-shattering property, which is found to be suitable for cultivation under lower hills under moderate drought stress situations.
Attended by 40 farmers and SMS, SRF, NICRA along with B.SC agri final year RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience) students from the Central Agricultural University, Kyrdemkulai, the field day was conducted in the paddy field of a progressive farmer, KD Kharkrang.
SMS (Agronomy) Dr Meghna Sarma briefed farmers about the cultivation package of the variety and encouraged them to adopt such variety for the next season.
SMS (Home science) Eliza Syiemlieh explained to farmers about taking up HYVs in their fields for large scale adoption for improvement of livelihood of farming community.
Farmers were advised to take up more HYVs of different crops and cultivation of pulses like lentil, pea, blackgram etc. to increase the cropping intensity.
The farmers were also distributed 15 kg of HYV of pea seed for popularizing pulse crop in the district.
