The District Magistrate of South West Khasi Hills District has informed that the ‘silence period’ will come into force in the entire district from 4 pm of February 25 as directed by the Election Commission of India.
During the period, election campaigns, public gatherings and use of loud speakers, distribution of pamphlets etc, display of flags/banners etc within 200 meters of polling booth will be banned.
Setting of temporary party office within 200 meters from polling booth, taking out public meeting or processions, carrying of arms and lethal weapons, creating an atmosphere that intimidates the voters and general public and public gathering of more than five persons at a particular place are also prohibited.
The presence of political functionaries from outside the constituency will not be allowed. However, candidates are allowed to make house to house visit during the period of 48 hours before the close of poll.
