In an effort to create a conducive sports atmosphere in the district and to provide a platform for sportspersons to enhance their skills and to encourage the youth to engage in sports activities, a mini football ground funded under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Fund was inaugurated today at Sohkymphor village in East Jaintia Hills.
Khliehriat MLA and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla inaugurated the new facility in the presence of EJH Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, Deputy Chief Executive Member of the JHADC Lasky Rymbai, JHADC Deputy Chairman Wailadameshwa Siangshai, traditional leaders, teachers, students and members of the public.
Shylla congratulated all the stakeholders for making the project a success and added that sport is a way to combat negative trends in society. He stressed on the need to provide more sports infrastructure in the district, which will open doors to the youths to engage in positive activities.
The minister noted that the artificial turf in Khliehriat’s Deinshynrum has resulted in an increase in footfall and he hoped that the new mini turf at Sohkymphor would also encourage more youth and others to stay fit and active through football.
