The Meghalaya State Education Commission (MSEC) has submitted its interim report on the salary structure for adhoc teachers of upper primary schools.
This was informed by Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) Secretary, S. Lamare today. He said the association will soon follow it up and looks forward to the government implementing the report.
Lamare said that the adhoc teachers have been serving for a long time, some who have died without getting paid and the aged ones are surviving without any benefits.
He said since 1993-94 no adhoc schools in the state have been upgraded to the deficit system.
Lamare stressed on equal work for equal pay and said their salary should be at par with that of government or deficit school teachers. “We have just learnt that the MSEC submitted its interim report to the government and we don’t have any plans to agitate,” he added.
The state government had constituted the MSEC in July last year with Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh of the Department of Education, NEHU as the chairman to advise the government on matters related to the school and college system, salary and school/colleges structures, school management functioning and accountability.
It has also been tasked to recommend concrete solutions and strategic intervention and policy decisions for ushering reforms in the school and higher education system from the perspective of National Education Policy 2020 and major issues that are impacting the education sector in Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, the MUPSTA in its general meeting held on Saturday, felicitated outgoing president and veteran teacher of the state, Kenneth Shadap.
“At different stages he made immense contributions to the association, MUPSTA President K. Ch Momin said. He said that Shadap had been associated with it since its inception.
