Based on a tipoff, Ri-Bhoi police and intelligence sources intercepted a vehicle carrying heroin, leading to the arrest of three suspected drug peddlers on Sunday night.
Police set up a roadblock near Byrnihat police outpost where a Maruti Alto 800 was stopped and searched.
Upon investigation, 14 soap boxes containing 140.37g of heroin were discovered underneath the seat of the vehicle.
The three accused, identified as Dilip Mawlong of Nongmensong, Bijay Thapa of Ladnartiang and Banshngain Kupar Khongdup of Umkdait Nongmensong, were arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. In addition to the narcotics, the police also seized three mobile phones, Rs 4,000 cash, three ID cards and a syringe from the accused persons.
