The Meghalaya government has signed a four-year agreement with Learning Links Foundation to enhance education programmes for students in Classes 1 to 8.
Currently, the foundation is implementing the ‘Holistic Child Development Programme’ in East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills, with plans to expand further.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed by State Project Director Swapnil Tembe and Dibyayan Datta of Learning Links Foundation, marks a significant step towards improving education in Meghalaya.
The various interventions of the ‘Holistic Child Development Programme’ (HCDP) will be implemented in 10 schools in East Khasi Hills and 10 schools in West Garo Hills districts.
The HCDP focuses on learning enhancement supported by health, wellness, physical development through sports, appreciation of art education and development of basic concepts of artificial intelligence (AI) for underserved government school children in the age group of 6-10 years.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, in India, a study conducted by ASER shows that the share of children currently not enrolled in school increased from 4 percent in 2018 to 5.5 percent in 2020. Historically, the share of children not enrolled has been decreasing except in 2020.
Addressing the need of the hour, Learning Links Foundation proposes to implement a HCDP that addresses the issues of learning gaps amongst government primary school students and builds a fundamental framework for the holistic development of the student.
Additionally, the HCDP also focuses on improving attendance and curtailing dropouts among elementary school students by focusing on nurturing both the scholastic and co-scholastic development of children using a sustainable and scalable model.
Learning Links Foundation, a non-profit organisation, started in 2002 has been working across India and the Asia-Pacific region to create future-facing solutions that bridge the learning gap and drive systemic change in schools.
