The Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District today organised an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Raid Mukertilla Secondary School, Umsyiem under Pynursla C&RD Block.
DSWO, E. Kharchandy in her introductory speech spoke about the ill effects of drugs and also urged the youths to stay away from drugs and other abusive substances. She also called upon the public at large to actively and diligently participate in fighting the drug menace in the district and region as a whole.
During the programme, K. N. Sangma, officer incharge Pynursla PS and A. Phawa, incharge of Dawki PO delivered speeches on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while Medical and Health Officer, Pongtung PHC enlightened the gathering on the mental health issues related to substance abuse.
Counsellor of Kripa Foundation De-Addiction Centre for Children, Mawkasiang, S. Rymbai also spoke on the occasion followed by testimony from one of the recovered addicts from the Kripa centre.
