A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in East Khasi Hills has convicted one person of raping two of his sisters aged just 6 and 9 respectively in 2020.
MK Lyngdoh, Special POCSO Judge, convicted the person under Section 5 of the POCSO Act (which deals with the rape) read with Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (which deals with criminal intimidation).
For the charges under POCSO, the convicted felon was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and issued a fine of Rs 50,000, which, in case he defaults in paying it, he will have to undergo another six months of imprisonment.
For offences under the IPC, the man was convicted for two years and also issued a fine of Rs 10,000, which, if he does not pay he will have to serve another three months of imprisonment.
The court has also recommended a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the survivors.
