Ri-Bhoi police today recovered a dead body from Umiam Lake. It is suspected to be a case of drowning.
According to Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad, the male victim was approximately 32 years old. The body was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy.
The identity of the victim is unknown at present. Police have initiated efforts to conduct a missing persons inquiry, Prasad added.
