The chairman District Disaster Management Authority East Jaiñtia Hills District has issued an advisory and called for coordination between the Superintendent of Police and the Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure zero casualties along the under repair national highway 6 and ensure easier facilitation of commuters.
Construction works and repair of the national highway along the stretch from Lumshnong upto Malidor has started on full swing and hence necessary traffic regulations have to be implemented, the chairman said.
While light motor vehicles for the public may ply with proper accessibility on both ways, heavy motor vehicles can access only one way with proper regulations by police on duty.
The NHAI has also been asked to put up signages for night visibility to prevent any untoward incident during the entire process of works as well as signboards and warning signage at strategic locations for visibility of the public of any danger locations like bridges, culverts, major potholes, etc.
If the NHAI requires closure for construction works, proper coordination with the nodal officer (Police Department) should be carried out with prior notice to ensure minimum disturbance to commuters, the chairman said.
