Ian A Lyngdoh Nongkynrih, known for his work on Doordarshan and Red FM, was today conferred with the Crystal Gayle Memorial Award 2023 by Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan here.
The award ceremony was organised by Riti Academy of Visual Arts to mark the sixth death anniversary of theatre artiste Crystal Gayle Kharnaior.
Lyngdoh Nongkynrih was, in a press release, described as a versatile, creative and proficient media exponent with profound knowledge on social, cultural and contemporary society. He has been behind such projects as a book on Ficus Khasiana, Finding the Living Root Bridges and the television programme ‘A Day in the Village’.
Chauhan, in a speech, stressed on the importance and scope of the visual arts to connect audiences with their roots and creative expressions and he reiterated the need for professional and educational institutions to make untiring efforts for the continuous development of visual arts in Meghalaya.
The involvement of local stakeholders from the educational and business sectors is essential in creating art and cultural institutions that emphasise the folk culture of the region, he added.
