Ranikor MLA-MDC Pius Marwein is pitching for another go as elected representative and has asked the voters not to bring their previous MLA, Martin Danggo, back to power.
A United Democratic Party (UDP) Ranikor circle meeting held at Rangthong-Mawthynrew, yesterday saw the joining of members from the National People’s Party (NPP) and Congress Party.
The members were welcomed to the UDP by Marwein, who expressed a hope that the party will be even stronger for the 2023 polls with the joining of the new members.
Danggo was a four-time MLA when he held on to Ranikor in 2018 on a Congress ticket. With the Congress being the largest party but unable to cobble together a coalition, Danggo became the first of its MLAs to jump ship – he resigned, joined the NPP and contested the by-election only to lose to Marwein.
The UDP man has claimed to have delivered all schemes to the public and brought about various developments for the people and disparaged Danggo’s record, saying that he distributed schemes only during election time.
As of now, only Marwein and Danggo are confirmed to be running in 2023.
