The Ri-Bhoi unit of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has reiterated the long-standing demand for the establishment of a Community and Rural Development (C&RD) office in Mawhati to address the pressing need for this facility among the local population.
FKJGP district general secretary Shanlang Diengdoh highlighted that the organisation had previously raised the demand for a C&RD block office in Mawhati, a region comprising numerous villages, particularly those situated along the Assam border.
Mawhati has experienced a significant increase in the number of villages and population but the continued absence of a C&RD block office has hindered the functioning of villages in implementing developmental projects. Currently, these villages fall under the jurisdiction of Nongpoh, Bhoirymbong and Umsning, which are located hundreds of kilometres away.
Diengdoh called upon local legislator Charles Marngar to intervene and address this matter with the state government for the benefit of his constituents.
