Despite the rise in Covid-19 cases, the campaigning for elections to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has seen open violation of Covid appropriate behaviors set by the Health Department.
The pandemic was not taken seriously by candidates and political parties and in most election meetings and campaigns, mandatory norms like social distancing and wearing of masks have been flouted in disregard to the Health Department’s protocols.
By not wearing masks, the political leaders and candidates are exposing themselves as well as the people attending the election meetings to the grave danger of infection.
Political leaders and star campaigners, however, seemed to enjoy the large turnout of people at their election rallies, instead of following the prescribed protocols.
