Forty-nine cases of Covid-19 were recorded from Jowai’s district jail, which accounted for most of West Jaiñtia Hills’ 82 new infections of the disease today.
State-wide, there were 218 new cases today, along with 134 recoveries and two fatalities.
One of the deaths was in East Khasi Hills and one in West Jaiñtia Hills. One of the two was unvaccinated, the Health Department informed.
West Jaiñtia Hills recorded 82 new cases today, East Khasi Hills 65, West Khasi Hills 38, Ri-Bhoi 11 and 22 between the other seven districts.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 78 recoveries, Ri-Bhoi 26, West Jaiñtia Hills 15 and 15 between the other eight districts.
There are now 1,970 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 916 active cases, West Khasi Hills 394, West Jaiñtia Hills 221, Ri-Bhoi 164, South West Khasi Hills 115, West Garo Hills 86, East Jaiñtia Hills 37, East Garo Hills 18, North Garo Hills 11, South West Garo Hills six and South Garo Hills two.
In all, Meghalaya has had 77,689 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,970 are active, 74,380 have recovered and 1,339 have died from the virus. The recovery rate decreased to 95.74 percent. The fatality rate dropped back to 1.72 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases rose to 196.86 and fell for new deaths to 2.43 (the lowest it has been since May 1).
