Health experts in the state are studying claims that the virus causing Covid-19 is not infectious after 10 days, Director of Health Services Dr Aman War said today.

As per current understanding, though yet unverified, “It appears that Covid-19 is not infectious after 10 days,” Dr War said. “Consultations are on with doctors that it appears Covid-19 patients are not infectious after 10 days.”

With the virus still comparatively new there are many things still to be learnt about it and this learning process is continuous.

Until the infection window is verified by experts, those positive for the virus will continue to be tested as per the norms laid down.

Dr War also said that the RT-PCR test is highly sensitive and can return a positive result if it detects dead viruses in the sample. For this reason most patients continue to test positive even after the 10th day, he added.
