Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today attended a beautification programme at Mawlai Kynton Massar.
Neighbourhoods all over Shillong, Tura and Jowai have been given grants to spruce up their localities in the run-up to Meghalaya’s 50th anniversary of statehood.
Speaking to the gathering, Sangma expressed happiness at being a part of a programme.
He also lauded the efforts of the volunteers for the initiative to clean the Umsawlong River, which is very important to the locality and the surrounding areas. He also announced an aid of Rs 2.5 lakh to the volunteers for the cause. He further added that Umsawlong River will be included under the Externally Aided Projects for preserving catchment areas.
Meanwhile, the CM also said that the demand to shift the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp from Mawlai is under process and identification of alternate land for the CRPF is underway.
He also said that the government will look into the issue of water scarcity in the area and get the issue resolved. Further, he also assured of looking into the issue of traffic congestion at the Mawlai bridge and to find a way out to be included in the MGNREGS by having meetings with the concerned departments.
Today also saw Sangma inaugurate the extended building of the crèche run by the Seng Kynthei Mawlai Nonglum.
In his brief speech to the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulated the members of the Seng Kynthei said that the government will soon start the Early Childhood Development Programme, which will focus and stress on the mental, physical and emotional growth and development of children between 0-8 years as guiding and nurturing them during this phase is very crucial.
He added that this programme will be carried out in centres like the Seng Kynthei Mawlai’s crèche. He also assured of support for the boundary fencing of the building.
An amount of Rs 6.50 lakh was provided to the crèche from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund and a room was extended to accommodate 30 children.
