Barely five months after the Congress made a public announcement to field Kansing Lyngshiang in the 2023 Assembly elections, the candidate today officially joined the National People’s Party (NPP).
NPP president and chief minister Conrad Sangma welcomed Lyngshiang and his supporters at a meeting held in Jongksha. He also announced the party’s decision to field him from Mawkynrew constituency in the upcoming elections.
Lynshiang was the president of Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee and had quit the Congress, citing personal reasons on October 21.
In the 2018 election the Mawkynrew Assembly seat was won by Banteidor Lyngdoh of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
