Shillong, Oct 13: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the Meghalayan Age Pavilion at Ward’s Lake, in presence of Tourism Minister Timothy D Shira.
Built at Rs 11.52 crore on 16,000 sq ft within DC’s Residence premises, the Pavilion is the first major outcome of the government’s Creative Redevelopment Plan for Shillong — a model appreciated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for creating public spaces in land-constrained hill cities. It has secured incentives under Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2025-26.
The Urban Affairs Director handed over the Pavilion to Meghalayan Age Limited for operation.
The Pavilion showcases four verticals — PRIME enterprises, Meghalayan Age Shillong Store, Food & Hospitality Zone, and Fruit Wine Experience Centre.
Sixteen PRIME entrepreneurs will operate from the facility. The restaurant was handed over to Adonijah Lyngdoh, winner of Hills on a Plate competition, and the Wine Centre to Meghalaya Fruit Wine Makers’ Association.
The Chief Minister said, “The Pavilion offers a true experience of Meghalaya. From our food and local products to our entrepreneurs, artisans and creative talent, it brings together the many stories that define our State.”
Other projects under the redevelopment plan include Anjalee Junction, PWD Complex Barik, Ward’s Lake restoration, Raj Bhavan park, Street Food Hub at State Guest House site, Wah Umkhrah riverfront, and vending zones at Brightwell Bungalow, Barik, Laitumkhrah and Dhankheti.
The inauguration also featured sanction letters to entrepreneurs, a Ryndia collection showcase by Daniel Syiem, and Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) performances.
