Shillong, May 2: A total of 400 children from high-risk groups in East Jaintia Hills received nutritional support through a dry ration distribution programme held at Dkhiah East Secondary School on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the Mih-Myntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) in collaboration with various local authorities, including the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA)
MCSWA Programme Manager R. Patlong spoke at the event, emphasising the initiative’s goals and thanking the DSWO for their sponsorship. “Such initiatives build a strong connection with beneficiaries while educating families on the importance of nutritious food,” she remarked, encouraging individuals and organisations to support the MCSWA office located near SBI Junction in Khliehriat.
The programme aims not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster long-term community well-being through consistent education on nutrition, Patlong said.
Sub-Inspector S. Dkhar addressed the risks associated with human trafficking, particularly for women and children. She highlighted the necessity of vigilance regarding suspicious job offers that often lure victims.
Furthermore, legal experts from the DLSA conducted awareness sessions on critical legal provisions, including the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. They aimed to empower victims to seek help and navigate available legal resources, ensuring that they are aware of the support systems in place.
